We do more than guiding!
Kayak Lessons and Kayak Instruction in California
River kayaking is available for those looking to get a little bit more adventurous. We offer guided kayaking trips and kayak lessons in both inflatable whitewater kayaks and "hard shell" kayaks. We offer beginning and intermediate hard shell kayak instruction and inflatable kayaking trips on class II and class III, for more advanced inflatable kayakers.

Beginning Hard Shell Kayak Lesson
This kayak lesson is structured to give you the necessary foundation to paddle class II whitewater in a hard shell kayak. In this course, you'll learn the following kayaking techniques:

-
Ferry across moving current
-
Maneuver in and out of eddies
-
Perform a bow rescue
-
Read basic whitewater
-
Communicate with standard hand signals
-
Run class II rapids comfortably

-
Learn to roll a kayak - Eskimo roll method
-
Basic strokes and river reading
-
jet ferries
-
eddie turns
-
playboating (surfing and hole riding)

Inflatable Whitewater Kayak trips
Inflatable whitewater kayaks are a step closer to the control and excitement of hard
shell kayaking without the steep learning curve. RRA offers 1-2 day raft
supported inflatable kayaking trips on the South Fork of the American, lower
Middle Fork American and East Carson rivers. Our introductory half day
inflatable kayaking trip on a Class II section of the South Fork of the American is a very
affordable way to get your feet wet with this sport. Most participants end
up coming back for a longer trip through progressively more challenging
rapids until they are comfortable navigating class III whitewater on their
own. Each day starts with a 20 minute discussion/demonstration on
paddling techniques, rivercommunication, and river safety. Over night inflatable kayaking trip
includes camping, river gear shuttle and meals.
